What is the POM?

The Procedural Oxygen Mask (POM) is the first mask of its kind to offer oral and nasal membrane technology that allows for the entry of scopes, tubes, or probes. The dual membrane ports provide access during conscious sedation cases while maximizing the oxygen percentage to the patient and measuring capnography. The POM would most commonly be described as an endoscopy oxygen mask used for endoscopic procedures. The POM can provide a Fi02 delivery rate of 85% or greater!

How does the POM work?

The Procedural Oxygen Mask can be used with most endoscopes and helps prevent hypoxic episodes and procedural interruptions. To use the POM, the user selects the nasal or oral port, attaches a non-rebreather adapter to the oxygen line, and secures it. The POM is then placed on the patient's face, secured with a nose clip and elastic band, and the patient is pre-oxygenated. The oxygen flow rate is adjusted according to the patient's needs, and vitals are continuously monitored. What is the POM Used For?

The POM can be used as a procedural “endoscopy mask” or a multi-functional mask. Many different procedures are covered under the term “endoscopic procedure.” The most common procedures are EGD, EUS, and ERCP which utilize the oral port for access. The POM was designed to be utilized for each of these procedures while also providing maximum oxygen flow to the patient. The POM can also be utilized for conscious sedation cases, fiber-optic intubation, TEEs, as well as bronchoscopies which use the nasal port.

Why POM?

The POM enhances patient safety, offers two styles in one single device, and improves adaptability with its two entry points. It allows for an unobstructed 360 degree view behind the mask. Some other benefits include optimizing oxygen concentration during conscious sedation, measuring capnography, allowing for unobstructed access to the patient, barrier protection, and reducing interruption during procedures.

What type of patient would benefit from The POM?

The Procedural Oxygen Mask (POM) is designed to provide improved oxygen delivery for patients with a variety of respiratory and cardiovascular conditions, such as COPD, asthma, obesity, high BMI, obstructive sleep apnea, and post-COVID lung dysfunction. The POM has undergone rigorous independent lab testing and is proven to be effective for patients with these maladies and breathing issues.

What sizes does the POM come in?

The Procedural Oxygen Mask is available in adult and pediatric sizes, but in June of 2023, we will be expanding our product range by introducing a medium size mask. This new addition will allow us to better fit a wider range of patients.

How does the POM help resolve adverse events & even help prevent fatal injury?

The greatest risk of conscious sedation during upper GI endoscopy is hypoxia or “cardiopulmonary” related events. The POM Maximizes the FiO2 to the patients helping reduce periods of desaturation and increasing intervention time.

Is the POM a high concentration or medium concentration oxygen mask?

Both! There are two main types of simple oxygen masks. (1) High concentration oxygen mask also known as a non- rebreather mask. (2) Medium concentration mask. The POM can easily be changed to either style mask with the insertion of the medium concentration adaptor or the high concentration adaptor (non-rebreather bag).

Why should I use the POM and not a nasal cannula?

The Procedural Oxygen mask offers higher oxygen (>85% FiO2) delivery rates as opposed to the nasal cannula (39% FiO2) oxygen delivery rate. Nasal cannulas are also prone to burning a patient’s nasal passages which the Procedural Oxygen Mask does not!

Where is the POM manufactured?

The POM is manufactured and assembled here in the United States.

Is the POM manufactured latex free?

Yes, The POM is manufactured without the use of any Latex.

Is the POM manufactured DEHP or DINP free?

Yes, The POM is manufactured without the use of any phthalates including DEHP or DINP.

Why is the POM classified as a universal conscious sedation mask?

The POM offers a distinct sales advantage as it is a single, all-encompassing device that caters to the needs of multiple departments and can be used for a wide range of procedures and conscious sedation scenarios for most patient demographics.

How do I connect the POM O2 universal supply line to my O2 connector/union?

Please review PDF entitled New ISO Tubing Connector Standards for assistance in properly using and attaching the POM Universal O2 Supply Line. In response to several sentinel events around the U.S. involving wrongful mis-connections to medical equipment, the FDA, World Health Organization, and Joint Commission have come together to eliminate the use of “all-purpose Christmas Tree” adapter. This multi-purpose adaptor has allowed for multiple medical mis-connections resulting in deaths. As the medical field moves forward to solve this issue, it has been proposed that all medical systems have an individual International Standard to be prepared in response to the need for a safe method of connecting medical equipment.

What if the CO2 sample line gets in the way?

The Co2 sampling line can be tucked under the left face strap on the mask to place it out of the way.
